Public schools closed Wednesday-Friday

Press release from Alachua County Public Schools
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County Public Schools and offices will be closed from Wednesday, September 28, through Friday, September 30, for all students and employees except those identified as essential personnel. All extra-curricular activities are also canceled Wednesday through Friday.
The district has been meeting and collaborating with the Alachua County Emergency Management team and the Alachua County Multi-Agency Coordination group since Friday, September 23, to prepare for the possible impact of the storm and to develop plans to serve people from our community and from other communities around the state who are evacuating from the storm. That includes the potential use of some schools as hurricane shelters.
The district plans to resume normal operations, including the reopening of schools, on Monday, October 3, assuming facilities are functional and safe.
