Public works professionals set to compete at the 2026 APWA Santa Fe Branch Annual Equipment Roadeo
Press release from the Santa Fe Branch of the American Public Works Association
NEWBERRY, Fla. – The Santa Fe Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) is pleased to announce its Annual Equipment Roadeo, scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Alachua County Agriculture and Equestrian Center (23100 West Newberry Road, Newberry).
This exciting annual event brings together skilled public works employees from across tenured departments in Alachua and surrounding counties.
Competitors will demonstrate their expertise and precision in operating essential public works equipment, showcasing their skills in timed challenges including the Mini Excavator Bowling Station, Loader Ball Barrel Station, Grapple Handling Challenge, and the Backhoe Softball Competition.
Each station is uniquely designed to test specific operator skills under a three-minute time constraint. Challenges emphasize accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to safety standards. For instance, the Mini Bowling Station requires participants to precisely maneuver a tetherball attached to a mini-excavator bucket to knock over numbered bowling pins.
This community event not only highlights the vital role public works personnel play in maintaining infrastructure but also fosters a spirit of camaraderie, competition, and professional development. Awards will be presented to participants achieving the highest scores and fastest times in each category.
Spectators are encouraged to attend, free of charge, and support their local public works teams. Proceeds from the sponsors assist the Santa Fe Branch in providing scholarships and professional development opportunities for their agency members.
