Recreational Swimming Reopens at Two City Pools

Press release from City of Gainesville
The City of Gainesville’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs has scheduled the next phase of reopening the city’s pools beginning this week (week of May 24). The department’s community builders have reopened shower facilities, increased the capacity of neighbors at the facilities, as well as opened reservations for scheduled recreational swimming opportunities.
Two City pools are scheduled to start recreational swimming on weekends (including Memorial Day):
- Dwight H. Hunter (Northeast) Pool, located at 1100 NE 14 St.
- Andrew R. Mickle Pool, located at 1717 SE 15 St.
Advance reservations are required as pool capacity is limited at this time. Neighbors may register as early as 3 p.m. Friday to reserve a spot on Saturday or Sunday. Phone lines for Hunter pool, 352-334-2191 and Mickle Pool, 352-334-2190, open 3 p.m. Friday, May 28. Reservations also can be made online using the instructions found on the City’s website. Masks are required for entry.
The diving boards, splash pad, and rock wall will be open. The City is committed to restoring operations for all recreational activities in a safe, incremental approach for all neighbors.
Due to an issue with the pool liner, H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool will remain lap swim and program use only. The City expects the repair to begin this fall.
