Residents evacuate safely from Hamilton Heights fire

This evening at 9:33 p.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the Hamilton Heights subdivision. Upon arrival, they found a single-story residence with smoke showing. Crews made entry and were able to locate the fire in the attic area near the chimney. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. There were no injuries, and the occupants were able to safely evacuate the residence prior to crews’ arrival. Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to have their fireplace and chimney inspected annually.
