Sanctuary Cities Attract All Kinds of Invaders
BY MAC McEACHERN / JUNE 5, 2019
The word is getting out that Gainesville is a sanctuary city: not only are illegal immigrants arriving, species of the animal kingdom are moving in.
Cuban tree frogs came to South Florida long ago, but now they have migrated up to Gainesville.
Cuban tree frogs compete with our native tree frogs for habitat. Our smaller tree frogs have always helped control our insect population and croak when it rains, but the Cuban frogs cause havoc because they are larger and more aggressive and also prefer to make their homes in pipes. (They also sound like squeaky door hinges.)
I just had three of the newcomers removed to clear a stoppage in the kitchen sink. It turns out that this is not new to local plumbers.
We must thank our leaders for their wisdom in managing our destiny and give them credit.
