Santa Fe College Adds Hawthorne to EXTRA Transportation Shuttle for Rural Students
Press release from Santa Fe College
MV Transportation and Santa Fe College are partnering again to provide rural students who lack transportation with access to SF’s Northwest Campus via the EXTRA Shuttle for the spring 2021 term.
The EXTRA Shuttle will provide daily round-trip service for rural students, bringing them to either the Northwest Campus or the Blount Center in the morning and back each afternoon every weekday when classes are in session at SF.
“Transportation can be a huge barrier to higher education,” said Dr. Naima Brown, SF’s Vice President for Student Affairs. ‘By providing this additional shuttle service line for students in Hawthorne, Santa Fe College is improving access to higher education, to high wage employment that follows earned credentials, and to a higher quality of life for the families in our service district. We are grateful that Hawthorne Middle/High School Principal Daniel Ferguson saw the need for the shuttle on that side of Alachua County and advocated to be included in the grant.’
Beginning with the start of spring classes on Jan. 5, 2021, there will be two routes scheduled. One will serve High Springs and Alachua; the other will serve Hawthorne. The EXTRA Shuttle service is supported by a grant from the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged. There are only a limited number of transportation vouchers available. Current and future students may apply for a transportation voucher at www.sfcollege.edu/extra.
