Santa Fe College Closing at 7 p.m., Will Remain Closed Wednesday, July 7
July 6, 2021
Press release from Santa Fe College
Santa Fe College will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa. There will be no classes beginning after 6 p.m.
Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D. released the following statement to the college community.
Dear Santa Fe Family,
The Emergency Management Team and Executive Leadership team has been closely monitoring the approach of Tropical Storm Elsa. Because the safety of our students, faculty and staff is paramount, Santa Fe College will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6 (today). Any classes that begin after 6 p.m. this evening are canceled. The college will remain closed Wednesday, July 7, for the entire day.
Unless expressly authorized, students, faculty and staff may not come to the Northwest Campus or any of the SF centers until the college reopens. We are continuing to monitor the track of the storm, but at this point, all indications are that the tropical storm force winds and bands of rain will make travel potentially unsafe and remote connections may be impacted.
Given the latest information we have from the National Hurricane Center, we fully anticipate being able to reopen Thursday, July 8, for regular work and class schedules unless there are conditions that prohibit a safe return. We will continue to monitor the storm and make decisions in the best interest of our college community.
Personally, I would strongly encourage all our students, faculty, and staff to take whatever measures they feel are necessary to remain safe. Please monitor the SF Weather Alerts page for additional information. You can also get updates on the storm through the National Hurricane Center, and storm prep is available at ready.gov.
