GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Santa Fe College (SF) Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology program will host their first student-led concert of the spring semester on Friday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m., when SF Associate Professor of Music David L. Smith directs two groups of musicians that comprise the college’s Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Combo, providing live 1920s and 1930s swing jazz music.
This semi-formal event will be held in the lobby of the Jackson Sasser Fine Arts Hall lobby, on the Northwest campus at 3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville, and will include light appetizers and free swing dance instruction. Admission is $10 per person. To order tickets, go to the Showpass link.
The bands — along with a special guest vocalist — will perform a total of 11 selections that include such jazz standards as “Take the ‘A’ Train,” made famous by Duke Ellington and his Orchestra; the Count Basie Orchestra’s “Li’l Darlin”; and the signature Benny Goodman number “Sing Sing Sing,” written by Louis Prima.
