School board workshop to amend zoning boundaries for Idylwild and Metcalfe Elementary Schools

Notice of Rule Development and Public Workshop

The School Board of Alachua County, Florida, gives notice of the development of amendments to Policy 5120.01 – School Zone Boundary Descriptions and that it will hold a public workshop to which all persons are invited.

Date and Time: Wednesday, January 5, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Location: Board Room, 620 East University Avenue, 620 East University Avenue, Gainesville FL

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose is to discuss, consider, and receive input on amendments to the school zone boundaries for Idylwild Elementary and Metcalfe Elementary Schools due to expected overcrowding at Idylwild Elementary School during the 2022-2023 school year; and to discuss potential future comprehensive rezoning plans.

The effect is that the policy will align with the current growth and projected capacity and allow the District to be balanced and have diverse enrollment for each school while still allowing for growth.

The text of the preliminary drafts may be viewed at the District Website, www.sbac.edu, under the Board’s January 5, 2022, Workshop agenda, or obtained without cost from the Office of the Superintendent, 620 East University Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32601, (352) 955-7880. The meeting may also be broadcast on a video screen outside the Boardroom, on the District’s website, and/or Cox Channel 12. In order to maintain social distancing, the number of people allowed in the Board room may be strictly limited.

There are several ways in which citizens could offer their input for this item:

1) submit input through email at issues@gm.sbac.edu by noon on the day of the board meeting; or

2) go to the Board Room to offer their input in person during the meeting. Please check the January 5 Agenda on the District’s website, www.sbac.edu, prior to the meeting for additional options to view or participate remotely.

Any person who decides to appeal a decision with respect to a matter considered at the workshop is hereby advised that, for such purpose, such person may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the meeting is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
