School rezoning workshop to be held Wednesday

NOTICE OF RULE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC WORKSHOPS

The School Board of Alachua County, Florida, gives notice of the development of amendments to Policy 5120.01 School Zone Boundary Descriptions and that it will hold a public workshop to which all persons are invited.

Date and Time: Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.

Location: Board Room, District Administration Building, 620 East University Avenue, Gainesville FL

The Board may hold additional Public Workshops/Community Input sessions and if so, those will be posted on the District’s Rezoning webpage at https://fl02219191.schoolwires.net/Page/31186. A link to this page can also be found on the District’s homepage at www.sbac.edu. PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose is to discuss, consider, and receive public and School Board Member input on the district-wide comprehensive rezoning for grades K-12 for the 2024-2025 school year. Any proposed amended school zone boundaries will be reflected in Board Policy 5120.01 School Zone Boundary Descriptions once those proposed changes have been determined. The effect is that the policy will align with the current growth and projected capacity for each of the schools identified through this process while still allowing for growth. There are several ways in which citizens could offer their input on these items: 1) submit input through email to rezoning@gm.sbac.edu by noon on the day of the board workshop (emails should include the phrase “Rezoning 8-16-23” in the subject line); or 2) go to the Board Room to offer input in person during the meeting. The meeting may also be broadcast on a video screen outside the Boardroom, on the District’s website and/or Cox Channel 12. Please check the District’s website prior to the meeting for additional ways to participate remotely.
