Solo bicycle rider raising funds for breast cancer research will be riding through Gainesville in the next few days
Press release from Pink Pedals 4 a Cure
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Saturday, March 23, Al Reszel left the Florida Keys, kicking off his seventh cross-country journey and solo bicycle ride in support of his wife Terry, a breast cancer survivor, the namesake of Pink Pedals 4 A Cure | Terry’s Ride, and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Since the 23rd, Reszel has been traveling north along the east coast of Florida. Over the next few days, Reszel will be riding through the cities of Palatka, Gainesville, Tallahassee, and more. Over the entire course of the entire ride, Reszel will ride through 12 states and 2 countries, traversing 4,100 miles over 49 days, arriving in Albany, Minnesota, on Sunday, May 12, Mother’s Day. Like last year, Al & Terry Reszel have decided to end the 2024 ride in their home state of Minnesota, allowing them the opportunity to share the culmination of the 2024 ride and tremendous effort with their family and friends in the region.
For years now, Al and Terry Reszel have been crisscrossing the country with the goal of raising awareness and donations for breast cancer research. Their organization, Pink Pedals For A Cure | Terry’s Ride, was founded in 2016, and their sole donations benefactor is the BCRF. This will be the seventh time Al will complete an extended multi-state solo bicycle ride for the BCRF, an amazing feat when you consider that Al Reszel is 65. Since 2016, Al and Terry have traveled 20,100 miles and raised over $52,232 for breast cancer research.
This 2024 ride ‘figures’ to be all about the ‘numbers.’ Let’s take a moment to look at the obvious numerical connections and this amazing story of survival and dedication.
- Two (2) … Which represents Al and Terry, two people, two lives that were changed forever due to a diagnosis of breast cancer.
- Seven (7) … As Al saddles up this year, he will begin his 7th ride in support of Terry and to help find a cure for breast cancer.
- Twenty-Four (24) … August of this year marks the 24th anniversary of Terry’s mammogram notification, which eventually led to her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2010.
- Twenty Twenty Four (2024) … The year that Al and Terry will once again embark on another ride to help raise awareness and donations for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
- Twenty-Four/Seven (24/7) … During the last 24 hours of the ride, Al and Terry will highlight 7 of the most significant moments of their 2024 journey.
Survival is a common thread in this historic and heroic story. Love is the needle and needful thing that weaves the threads together to form a narrative born out of determination, courage, and commitment. Terry Reszel, a breast cancer survivor, having already written her chapter of sufferance and stoicism, steps once again into the multi-faceted role of supporter, comforter, and cheerleader as her husband Al once again enters the saddle, attempting another herculean cross-country solo bicycle ride to help find a cure.
