Starke man killed on US 301

Harold L. Johnson, 42, of Starke, was killed in an early morning accident on US Hwy 301.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Max Hogg, 42, of Keystone Heights, was traveling south on US 301 at 6:00 a.m. in a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Tommie Wilcox, 58, of Lakeland, FL, driving a tractor-trailer, and an unknown driver, in a vehicle that may also been a tractor-trailer, were also traveling south on US 301.

Johnson, who was driving a 2017 Kia Forte, was traveling east on CR 225, attempted a left turn across US 301, and was hit by Hogg’s truck. Johnson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and was struck by the two tractor-trailers. Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident is still being investigated, and charges are pending.
