Student arrested in GHS bomb threat

Gainesville Police Department (GPD) detectives have arrested a minor student for calling in a bomb threat to Gainesville High School (GHS) on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Officers responded to GHS in the early afternoon of September 29 after a bomb threat was called in to a school office. Students and staff were evacuated, and the school campus was eventually deemed clear of any danger(s). Traffic was tied up for hours during the evacuation and clearing of the school, as well as many cumulative hours of GPD resources used in assisting.
Detectives received tips from School Resource Officers and students the following day and were able to develop probable cause for the arrest. The suspect, a GHS student, is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing and has been charged with felony accounts of making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
