Press release from Grace Presbyterian Church
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Texas A&M Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Thomas Gerber, will present a concert at Grace Presbyterian Church (3146 NW 13th St.) on Monday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. as part of their Florida Spring Tour. The Texas A&M University Women’s Chorus was founded in 1979 by Patricia P. Fleitas. Its members consist of approximately fifty talented young women who are dedicated to choral excellence and possess a true passion for music.Â
“It is an honor for Grace Presbyterian to host a high caliber university choral ensemble,” says John-Peter S. Ford, Director of Music and Organist at Grace Presbyterian. “Gainesville is a music loving community, and being able to provide a performance opportunity for an ensemble such as this is such a treat that is not to be missed.”
Joining the Texas A&M Women’s Chorus will be the University of Florida Chorale, under the direction of James Cain, Assistant Director of Choirs at the University of Florida. The Chorale is one of five choral ensembles at the University of Florida. “The choir is composed of singers pursuing dozens of different majors across the university,” says Dr. Cain, “and each year, the Chorale presents several performances and routinely programs a diverse set of music.” Just recently the Chorale held a residency with Andrew David Sotomayor, current Musical Director of the National Tour of the Broadway musical Annie. The choir presented the premier of Sotomayor’s “As the Seasons Fly.”
Ford says of the concert, “Having the two largest SEC Universities collaborate on such a project is an immense joy! It is a perfect opportunity for local High School and Middle School students that are interested in the musical activities of either university to hear the choirs and even meet the ensemble members.”
