The Hippodrome Cinema announces its June 2026 film lineup
Press release from The Hippodrome Theatre
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Hippodrome Cinema is proud to announce its June 2026 film programming, spanning documentary, animation, horror, sci-fi, and family cinema — anchored by community events and special guests.
The month opens Wednesday, June 3, with a one-night-only return of Rebel With a Clause, the docu-comedy following grammar expert Ellen Jovin’s cross-country “Grammar Table” tour. Filmmaker Brandt Johnson and subject Ellen Jovin will be in attendance for a live Q&A and book signing.
In celebration of Hipp Pride, the landmark 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning returns June 5–7, followed by the new Erupcja (June 5–14), starring Charli XCX in Pete Ohs’ fizzy European anti-romcom.
Take A Second Look: Cult Classics on June 13 pairs The Matrix (5:00 p.m.) with Jennifer’s Body (8:00 p.m.).
Sunday, June 14 brings a special event: composer David DiDonato performs a live musical score accompanying Fritz Lang’s silent masterpiece Metropolis (1927) — a film set, fittingly, in the year 2026.
Ask E. Jean (June 12–21) chronicles the life of journalist and advice columnist E. Jean Carroll.
Legends of the Highway (June 18–28) tells the inspiring story of the 26 Highwaymen, the self-taught Black artists who forged their own path to recognition in 1950s Florida. The film screens in conjunction with an exhibition at the Harn Museum of Art running through July 26. On Thursday, June 18, special guest Dr. Hazel Levy will lead a panel discussion after the film.
Father’s Day (June 21) features a family matinee of Pixar’s Finding Nemo at 1:30 p.m.
The following weekend, Front of House Manager Nyq Smith presents his Staff Reel Pick: Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle (June 26–28), with a personal introduction at the June 26 screening.
Closing out the month, Cocktails & Classics presents JAWS on Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 p.m. — Steven Spielberg’s original summer blockbuster with a specialty cocktail included with every ticket.
Cinema Director Naheed Mojadidi said, “June is one of those months where the programming feels genuinely alive. We have films that challenge, films that celebrate, and films that bring people together in ways that only cinema can. We can’t wait to share it all with our community.”
