Tropical Storm Elsa Update #4 Weather Update and Sandbag Information
July 6, 2021
Press release from Alachua County
Tropical Storm Elsa (sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph) moved out of Cuba overnight and is now west of the Florida Keys. All of Alachua County is under a Tropical Storm Watch, and Alachua County west of I-75 is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Tropical storm force winds are expected to impact Alachua County as early as tonight into tomorrow morning.
The entire County will likely experience tropical storm force winds, but the west side of the County, as well as open areas like fields and lakes, will experience stronger tropical storm force winds. Homeowners should clear their yards of debris and items that may be picked up by wind and cause damage to homes. Those who live in a flood prone area or feel their home is unsafe should consider staying with family or friends, or in a hotel.
In preparation for possible heavy rainfall due to Tropical Storm Elsa, and in light of how saturated the ground is currently, Alachua County has sandbags available for residents today, Tuesday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Wayside Park (11855 N.W.
