Two animals killed in fire near Alachua

At 1:45 p.m. today, Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) and LaCrosse Fire Department responded to a residential building fire in the rural unincorporated area of Alachua County near NW 199th Ave and NW County Road 239. Crews encountered heavy fire in the rear of the house, with all occupants outside the structure. Two animals succumbed to the smoke and fire conditions; no other injuries were reported at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. ACFR would like to remind everyone to ensure your smoke detectors are in proper working order and tested regularly.
