Press release from the Frazer School

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Gainesville teams from the Frazer School demonstrated elite engineering and collaboration skills last week at the Vex Robotics World Championship, placing near the top of over 400 teams from around the world.

The Top Dogs (Nicholas Chronley, Miles Snead, and Maverick Snead) and Quasar (Vivek Kolli, Hannah Lu, Nivedh Naik, Vincent Wen), both from the Frazer School, earned their bid to the world stage after placing first in Teamwork in the North Florida region earlier this spring. Teams had one year to build a robot and strategy to conquer a game designed by Vex Robotics where points are earned through speed, agility, and teamwork between robots. More than 15,000 teams brought robots to competitions in 50 countries this year.

In Dallas, the best of the best worked with randomly paired alliance partners (often using translators) to merge strategies and achieve maximum points in twelve 60-second matches.

At the end of qualification matches, which included alliances with students from Oman, Mexico, Taiwan, China, and the U.K., the Top Dogs were ranked 5th in their division of 84 teams and went on to win 3rd place in the division finals. Quasar, playing in a different division, ranked 8th at the end of their matches and moved forward to make 9th in the division finals.
