UF and Chartwells Higher Education celebrate the power of food on World Food Day through ‘SpiceFul’

Press release from Chartwells Higher Education

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Today the University of Florida and its foodservice partner Florida Fresh Dining, part of Chartwells Higher Education, held their ‘SpiceFul’ event, a nationwide celebration on World Food Day that highlights bright, bold flavors and celebrates the power of food, sustainability, and culture. SpiceFul celebrates nutrient-rich and delicious spices and ingredients while educating students about World Food Day, a global collaboration in creating a peaceful, sustainable, prosperous, and food-secure future.

“Trying new flavor profiles and spices through meals on campus not only introduces students to new foods but brings them together through shared experiences,” said Courtland Thomas, District Marketing Director for Florida Fresh Dining. “SpiceFul also gives Gators an opportunity to embrace the spirit of World Food Day and fosters a sense of Gator pride that extends beyond the dining hall.”

During the event, students at UF were invited to try fresh, flavorful recipes, including partnerships from over 30 national supplier partners – including Pepsi, Celsius, Frito Lay, F’Real, and more! SpiceFul’s interactive events included a do-it-yourself spice station, friendship bracelets, and a photo booth.

Students focused on tasting and learning about new spices, where they come from, and how better, healthier foods create a better future. This event served as one of the kickoff events to the University of Florida’s homecoming celebration.

“SpiceFul not only allows us to celebrate the power of food and culture, but also addresses important issues like food insecurity by giving back to local communities,” said Eva Wojtalewski, CEO of Chartwells Higher Education. “It’s about showing students how fresh, healthy foods and flavors and a strong sense of community can make a difference.”

SpiceFul is another example of how Chartwells is inspiring community and connection through its JoyFul campaign.
