UF Gymnastics: Pair of Gators Claim SEC Weekly Honors

Gator juniors Nya Reed and Trinity Thomas collected Southeastern Conference weekly gymnastics honors after No. 1 Florida’s win at No. 2 LSU.

Reed picks up her third SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week honor of this season. A Gator has taken this honor four of the six weeks this season, as fellow junior Savannah Schoenherr claimed the Week 3 honor.

Thomas claims her third SEC Gymnast of the Week honor of 2021, and this is the 14th such honor of her career. This is the fourth such honor for the Gators in 2021 as senior Megan Skaggs collected the honor in the final week of January.

Nya Reed – SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week:

  *   Competed in two events at No. 2 LSU.
  *   Vault (9.925) set collegiate best. Second time in 2021 raised collegiate vault best
  *   Floor (9.925) shared second. All floor marks in 2021 are 9.925 or better. Two floor wins and three runner-up finishes in 2021
  *   Helped Florida set season team total bests of 49.55 for both vault and floor at LSU
  *   Current national rankings – vault (No. T-12 – 9.880) and floor (No. 5 – 9.935)

Trinity Thomas – SEC Gymnast of the Week:

  *   Set Florida record and posted No. 5 total all-time to claim her 17th career all-around title (39.90)
  *   Completed event sweep (first time for UF since Alex McMurtry in 2018): vault (9.975), bars (9.975), beam (T1st – 9.95), floor (10.0)
  *   Earned second collegiate 10.0 on floor and first 10.0 of 2021. Fifth career 10.0
  *   Won 16 event titles through Florida’s first five meets
  *   Current national rankings – vault (No. T1 – 9.930), bars (No. 1 – 9.940), floor (No. T6 – 9.915) and all-around (No. 3 – 39.525).
