Brianna Harris, Shannon Kavanagh, Danielle Pavinelli, and Cara Trombetta each pick up AAC accolades in week 8

After sweeping the series over East Carolina this past weekend, four Gators earned American Athletic Conference awards, the league announced Monday.

Brianna Harris earned her first Attacker of the Week award this season, while Shannon Kavanagh nabbed her fourth Midfielder of the Week honor in the 2021 campaign. Danielle Pavinelli was named Freshman of the Week for the second time, while Cara Trombetta earned a spot on the Honor Roll to round out Florida’s honorees.

Harris tallied 12 points on seven goals and five assists in Florida’s two wins against the Pirates. She also notched an .875 shooting percentage, eight draw controls, and one groundball in the series.

In Thursday’s game, she tied her career-high with five goals on the afternoon to lead Florida to a 20-9 win over ECU. The Annapolis, Md. native was 5-of-5 on the day, dished out two helpers, and added five draw controls in the win. In Saturday’s 19-7 win, Harris recorded five points on two goals and three assists to go along with three draw controls and a groundball.

Kavanagh registered eight points on five goals and three assists in the two-game series against the Pirates. She also led the team in draw controls with 10 and added one groundball and one caused turnover in the victories.

The Smithtown, N.Y. native recorded three goals and two assists in Thursday’s game to go along with a team-high six draw controls. The senior followed that with a three-point performance on 2-of-3 shooting in Saturday’s game, collecting four draw controls in the win.

Pavinelli scored five goals in Florida’s two wins – registering a .833 shooting percentage (5-of-6). The freshman also tallied two groundballs and one caused turnover in the series.

The Northport, N.Y. native scored a hat trick in Thursday’s game, going a perfect 3-of-3 on the afternoon, while picking up two groundballs and causing a turnover. Pavinelli then closed out her weekend with a two-goal performance against the Pirates on Saturday to earn the conference honor.

Trombetta led a locked-in Florida defense this past weekend and had the task of marking one of ECU’s top scorers in Megan Tryniski – holding her to just 2-of-7 shooting in the series.

The fifth-year senior recorded five groundballs and four caused turnovers in the two games – including a season-high three in Saturday’s matchup. She also currently leads a squad that sits fourth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 7.64 goals per game.

The Gators have approached their scheduled conference bye week and will be back in action against Vanderbilt for a two-game series on April 16/18 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
