Press release from UF Athletic Association
Her eight-goal performance against No. 1 Maryland gives her the first national weekly accolade of her career.
Junior Shannon Kavanagh was named US Lacrosse’s Player of the Week after her stellar performance against then-No. 1 Maryland.
This is the first national weekly honor that Kavanagh has garnered during her career.
The Smithtown, N.Y. native had herself a career day against Maryland, recording a personal-best eight goals. Her previous career high was five, which she has hit six times in her tenure at Florida.
The eight goals tie the second-highest total in a game in program history (Record – 9, Lindsey Ronbeck).
Overall, she went 8-of-13 shooting for a .615 clip, won five draw controls and registered a groundball in the win.
The junior inched closer to the 200-point mark, moving to 171 in her career. During the game, she moved into 10th in program history in points (171) and 11th in goals (117).
Earlier today, Kavanagh also earned AAC Midfielder of the Week honors for the second time in two weeks.
Florida returns home on Saturday to face off against No. 12 Loyola. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Florida’s Hometown Heroes game.
