This is the first weekly honor of Ricky Castillo’s career.

After a phenomenal start to the spring season, Ricky Castillo was tabbed as the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

This marks the first SEC weekly honor of Castillo’s career and the first of the season for the Gators.

Earlier this week, Castillo led the Gators at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, tying for sixth behind a 5-under 211 performance. Collectively, Florida placed fourth among the loaded 15-team field, finishing ahead of six top-25 teams.

The freshman’s tie for sixth at Southern Highlands marks his third top-10 finish of the spring, following his back-to-back individual wins at the Sea Best Invitational and VyStar Gators Invitational.

Castillo has yet to record a round over par this spring, shooting a collective 26 under with a scoring average of 67.78. Five of his nine rounds have also been in the 60s.

Castillo and the Florida men’s golf team return to the course on Saturday, March 21 for the Tar Heel Collegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C.
