Freshman Tyler Wilkes was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following his career-best finish at the LSU Invitational

Freshman Tyler Wilkes has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Wilkes recorded the best finish of his collegiate career at the LSU Invitational. The Tampa native shot a collective 5-over par through three rounds to tie for 15th place, breaking his previous career-best of T18, which he set at the Gators Invitational the week prior.

In a challenging final round, Wilkes was one of only 13 golfers who recorded an even score or below par. He ranked sixth amongst the field of 90 in pars made (38).

This is the first SEC honor of Wilkes collegiate career and the first for the Gators this season.

The Florida men’s golf team will return to play on March 15 when they compete in the Tiger Invitational, hosted by the University of Auburn at the Grand National Golf Club.
