Junior captain mounts comeback after dropping first set
Florida’s Sam Riffice advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2021 NCAA Singles Tournament on Monday at the USTA National Campus.
For the second day in a row, Riffice staged a comeback after dropping the first set.
After falling behind 2-6 in set one, the junior stormed back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andres Martin of Georgia Tech.
He will now take on Siphosothando Montsi of Illinois in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at noon ET.
It was a difficult day elsewhere for the 2021 national champions as Andy Andrade and Duarte Vale fell in singles, while Will Grant/Johannes Ingildsen and Riffice/Vale lost in doubles, leaving Riffice as the lone Gator left in either competition.
