Sophomore catcher Julia Cottrill was named SEC Co-Newcomer of the Week after a series of excellent performances at the plate for the Gators this past week.
The Wichita, Kan. native turned in three multi-hit games in just four played this past week and now has five over the last six games played. In all, she now has eight multi-hit games on the season, which is the third most on the team.
Cottrill batted .500 (7-for-14) against a pair of Top 25 opponents and drove in a total of seven runs via three doubles and her first collegiate home run of the season.
The talented catcher’s home run came in the series opening game against the Tigers when she lifted a three-run shot over the left field wall to break open the game 5-0 over LSU.
Cottrill also scored twice in the series finale against the Tigers, which tied her career-high that she initially set in 2020.
This is the first SEC weekly award for Cottrill and the fifth overall SEC weekly award for the Gators.
The Gators travel to Jacksonville, Fla. tomorrow to take on Jacksonville in a single midweek contest at 6 p.m. (ET).
