Monday afternoon the Southeastern Conference announced that right-handed pitcher Elizabeth Hightower was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after a pair of performances in the circle this past week for the Gators.

Hightower (7-0) picked up a pair of wins in the circle for the Gators (14-1) and held opposing batters to just a .057 average at the plate. She relinquished only two hits and one run through 11.0 innings in her two appearances.

The talented right-hander started the week with a relief appearance against New Mexico State last Wednesday evening. She entered the game with a 4-1 lead in the 3rd inning with two Aggies on base and shut down the rally by forcing three consecutive outs. She retired 12 out of the 15 batters she faced in 4.0 innings of work.

The Monticello, Fla. saved her best performance for No. 16 Florida State last Friday afternoon. Hightower hurled her second complete-game one-hit shutout against the Seminoles with the lone hit occurring in the top of the 6th inning of play.

So far this season, the Gators have produced four one-hitters and Hightower has two of them to herself, but has also been involved as a starter or a reliever in the other two as well.

This season Hightower holds an overall 0.69 ERA with 40 strikeouts through 40.2 innings pitched.
