This is Lugo’s second SEC Pitcher of the Week accolade of her career

Senior Natalie Lugo was announced as the Southeastern Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the league office. This is the first SEC Pitcher of the Week award for Lugo and the fourth of the season for the Gators pitching staff.

The West Covina, Calif. native went 3-0 during the week and hurled her first complete-game shutout of the season in the 6-0 win to even the series 1-1 with South Carolina. In total, she pitched 17 2/3 inning and allowed only one run for a 0.40 ERA on the week with 13 strikeouts.

After the complete-game shutout against South Carolina, the right-handed hurler became the first pitcher for the Gators this season to earn back-to-back starts against an SEC opponent. It’s also the first time she has posted back-to-back starts against an SEC opponent in her career.

In the series finale against South Carolina, Lugo tied her season-long scoreless inning streak with 16 scoreless frames before the Gamecocks were able to record their first run in the top of the 4th inning of play with one out.

The right-handed senior currently leads the SEC with a 1.02 ERA in conference play and ranks second in opposing batting average (.182) and wins (7).

On the season, Lugo boasts a 1.30 ERA and a 13-1 record through 91 1/3 innings pitched and 15 starts.
