The honor adds to Mardal’s already historic season at UF
Florida senior Thomas Mardal was named the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Mardal, who currently leads the NCAA in the men’s hammer throw, holds a 3.59 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in business administration.
The Gloppen, Norway native is a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic individual and a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor contributes to what has been a historic senior campaign for Mardal. The thrower won the SEC and NCAA championships in the weight throw earlier this year and has broken several school records both indoors and outdoors.
Mardal, who was also crowned SEC champion in 2019 (hammer) and 2020 (weight), is set to defend his hammer throw conference title this weekend at this year’s SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The championship meet will take place Thursday-Saturday in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
