After picking up two sweeps over Tennessee last week, two Gators earned SEC Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Junior Lauren Dooley was named Defensive Player of the Week – her first such honor this season – and junior Marlie Monserez picked up her second SEC Setter of the Week honor for the 2020-21 campaign.
Dooley was a defensive force at the net for the Gators last week, averaging 2.17 blocks per set over the two matches. She currently leads the league in blocks per set with 1.49.
In the first match against the Lady Vols, Dooley recorded a team-high 8.0 blocks in the sweep. She paired that with a six-kill, one-dig performance to round out the day.
The Plano, Texas native notched five blocks in the second match against the Vols, once again leading the Gators. She also tallied four kills and one dig in the three-setter.
Monserez was tabbed as Setter of the Week after averaging 11.67 assists per set over the course of the two Tennessee sweeps. She currently sits second in the league in assists per set with 10.53.
In the first match, she dished out 34 assists, while also tallying nine digs – just one shy of a double-double.
The Windermere, Fla. native was just three kills off a triple-double performance in the second match, notching 36 assists, 12 digs, and a career-high seven kills. That performance was her fifth double-double of the year.
Dooley, Monserez, and the rest of the Gators will be back in action for a two-match series with Arkansas, beginning Friday.
