Women’s tennis senior Ida Jarlskog recorded two singles wins and two doubles victories
After going undefeated in both singles and doubles and helping push the No. 13 Gators to a pair of top 25 victories, University of Florida women’s tennis senior Ida Jarlskog has been named the SEC’s Athlete of the Week for women’s tennis, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Between singles and doubles, the Sweden native collected a total of four victories and knocked off three ranked opponents.
In singles, Jarlskog kicked off the week with a two-set win over No. 71 Lesedi Jacobs of No. 21 Kentucky, providing the match-clinching victory in a crucial SEC showdown. On Saturday’s senior day matchup against No. 19 Vanderbilt, Jarlskog added another pivotal win from the third court as she defeated Anna Ross in what was her final home regular season bout. Jarlskog (7-3) entered Thursday with a string of six consecutive unfinished matches.Â
Florida defeated No. 21 Kentucky 5-1 and No. 19 Vanderbilt by a score of 4-2 to extend its winning streak to six matches.
On the doubles side, Jarlskog and Layne Sleeth combined for a pair of wins over ranked opponents, defeating No. 66 Stevens and Girbau of UK and No. 58 Kurtz and Cruz of Vandy. Florida’s No. 2 doubles tandem pushed its record to 5-0 on the campaign.
For Jarlskog, who has won four straight matches in singles and five consecutive doubles tilts, it is her second time receiving the award as she also earned the accolade on Feb. 27, 2019.
Jarlskog and the Gators wrap up their 2021 dual match campaign on the road on Saturday, April 10, at No. 24 South Carolina.
