Senior McCartney Kessler earns 6-3, 6-2 win over Vanessa Wong of Washington in opening round of NCAA singles tournament

University of Florida women’s tennis senior McCartney Kessler advanced ahead to the round of 32 in the NCAA Singles Championship with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Washington’s Vanessa Wong Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus (Collegiate Center).

Extending her winning streak to nine, Kessler dispatched Wong in a straight-set triumph. Taking on Wong, an All-Pac 12 First Team selection, Kessler held serve against the senior from Toronto and secured a spot in tomorrow’s round of 32 where she will take on the winner of Kelly Chen (Duke) and Jada Hart (UCLA).

The three-time All-SEC pick Kessler improves to 1-1 all time in NCAA individual action and is 8-2 against ranked opponents this season.

In addition to her singles match tomorrow, doubles play kicks off Monday for Kessler and her teammate Marlee Zein as the Gator duo battles Ally Bojczuk and Julia Lilien of Notre Dame in opening round action.
