Update Concerning the Vacancy on the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners

On Monday, May 16, 2022, County Commissioner Mary Alford tendered her resignation to Governor DeSantis with approximately 30 months remaining in her term, which ends November 19, 2024. This creates a vacancy on the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners.
Vacant offices with more than 28 months left in their term are filled in two parts: appointment and election. The Governor will appoint an officer to fill this position through the November general election (until November 15, 2022). Prospective candidates interested in this gubernatorial appointment can apply online at http://www.flgov.com/gubernatorial-appointment/
The officer serving the remainder of the term, from November 15, 2022, through November 18, 2024, will be chosen through election. Candidates for this position (and any other open office) must qualify for the position during the qualifying period, between noon, June 13, and noon, June 17.
