Update on GPD High Visibility Enforcement Detail

Press release from Gainesville Police Department
In March 2021, the Gainesville Police Department was awarded a $35,000 contract by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Institute of Police Technology to conduct high visibility enforcement details to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.
The goal of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of and compliance with traffic laws that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists. Enforcement efforts focus primarily on education to drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
To date, GPD has conducted details with the following results:
Pedestrians contacted: 985
Bicyclists contacted: 39
Motorists contacted: 118
Warnings issued: 133
Citations issued: 2
Education remains a priority for this detail. Over the past two months, FDOT has provided hundreds of different pamphlets that GPD has handed out to our neighbors. The pamphlets contain safety information for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.
This contract will continue through May 14, 2021.
