HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Today, firefighters responded to a brush fire in High Springs and prevented it from spreading to a home, animal pens, and boats.

At 1:13 p.m. on January 20, High Springs firefighters were dispatched to 14385 NW 268th Street for a reported brush fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 29 reported a quarter-acre brush fire, quickly spreading in multiple directions, fueled by a steady northwest wind.

When flames were spotted under a mobile home, Captain Kevin Pearson upgraded the call to a structure fire response, bringing in several resources from Alachua County Fire Rescue and the Newberry Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to about a half-acre and prevent it from spreading further into the home or engulfing several animal pens, boats, and another home. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been from a burn pile from the day prior.

Firefighters remind you: If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.
