Western part of Alachua County now under hurricane warning

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – High Springs, Newberry, and Archer are now under a hurricane warning, according to the National Weather Service. A hurricane warning means hurricane-force winds are expected in the area within the next 36 hours.

The wind threat has increased from the previous assessment, and residents should plan for potential winds up to 110 mph. Potential impacts include structural damage to buildings, destruction of mobile homes, trees uprooted, blocked roads, and widespread power and communications outages.

The forecast is also favorable for tornadoes.
