Winter storm watch in effect for Wednesday morning, freezing rain possible

Press release from Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Very cold weather is forecast this week, starting tonight and continuing through Wednesday. Freezing rain is possible with some potential black ice.

The cold weather is going to start making its way into the area overnight tonight, progressively getting colder starting Monday and going into Wednesday.

The farther north that you are, the colder it will be, but all of Alachua County could see a chance of getting some freezing rain, and with that, ice accumulation is possible.

Make sure that you have your property ready for the cold weather. Remember to protect people, pets. pipes, and plants. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS OUTSIDE. Make sure to use caution when using any type of mobile heater and check up on your neighbors that may have issues with their heating units.

Freezing rain can always have an impact on the roadways, so make sure that you keep safe and use extra caution if you are out on the roadways during the coldest times. Reminder, not all roads are created equal. Roads such as overpasses and roads in open/rural areas have a higher chance of experiencing black ice.
