Latoya Cherelle Cook, 33, was arrested yesterday evening after allegedly intentionally hitting another woman with her car.
At about 6:00 p.m., a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call about a person being hit by a car. When he arrived, he found a vehicle that had swerved off the road and hit a light pole.
The officer reported that Cook and the victim had been in a fight over social media for about a week, with Cook allegedly making threats toward the victim. When Cook saw the victim walking, she allegedly intentionally drove her vehicle into the back of the victim. A witness who was standing next to the victim but was not hit by the vehicle confirmed the account, adding that after the car stopped, Cook got out and continued to yell threats at the victim and the witness. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Post Miranda, Cook reportedly claimed that her brakes went out. Cook has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held on $15,000 bail.
