Zeta Phi Beta Sorority celebrates Finer Womanhood Month

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Delta Sigma Zeta Chapter, celebrates Finer Womanhood Month, observed from the last week of February through the entire month of March, with a series of impactful initiatives designed to uplift the Greater Gainesville community and beyond through economic empowerment, health education, cultural enrichment, and scholarship opportunities.

Finer Womanhood Month highlights the Sorority’s commitment to its founding principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood while promoting programs that address Social, Health, and Economic (S.H.E.) justice.

Throughout the observance, the Gainesville Zetas will host several initiatives aimed at strengthening the community, including:

SOCIAL Enrichment: Afternoon with Zora

In collaboration with The Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center, the Gainesville Zetas will present an Afternoon with Zora, “S.H.E. Told the Truth — Zora Neale Hurston and the Power of Voice.”

This event will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center, located at 837 S.E. 7th Avenue in Gainesville, FL.

The program will celebrate the life and legacy of renowned author, anthropologist, and Zeta Phi Beta member Zora Neale Hurston, exploring themes of S.H.E. equity through her work and influence. Guests are encouraged to don their finest hats for an afternoon of literature, culture, and community conversation. This event is free and open to the public.

HEALTH Education: Real Talk on Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

The chapter will also host a virtual health education workshop, REAL TALK: Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer that disproportionately impacts Black women. This educational presentation will focus on awareness, early detection, prevention strategies, and empowering community members with life-saving information. Finer Takes Care of Business

As part of the celebration, the chapter launched its “Finer Takes Care of Business” Small Business Crawl, a social media campaign spotlighting small businesses throughout the Greater Gainesville community that members regularly support.

This initiative aims to elevate local entrepreneurs, increase visibility for community-rooted businesses, and strengthen the local economy.

“By intentionally highlighting and supporting small businesses, we are investing directly in the vitality of our community,” said Chapter President Yvette Carter. “When we support with purpose, we advance economic justice.”

Five Pearls of Scholarship

In addition to these community programs, the chapter is currently accepting applications for its Five Pearls of Scholarship Awards, which supports local female high school seniors pursuing higher education.

Applicants must:

  • Be a female graduating high school senior residing in Alachua County, Florida
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrate acceptance into a four-year college or university
  • Submit an essay exemplifying the principles of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
