GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy was arrested today at Westwood Middle School after a handgun was found in his backpack.

According to the Gainesville Police Department Public Information Officer, the boy brought a gun to school in his backpack, and school staff received a tip about the gun. The School Resource Officer detained the student, and a search of the backpack reportedly produced a handgun.

The student has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.

    • Somebody’s son.
      Maybe someone’s brother.
Definitely someone who should have known better.

      • Right these kids dnt need to start doing the stuff we hear bout in schools up north or all over the world shootings in schools Gather God watch over these kids in these schools God in Jesus name we pray Amen 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  • this kid actually goes to my school. this was absolutely terrifying thing to find out. we weren’t even put on lockdown, luckily someone reported it and nothing happened but he had threatened a kids little sisters too.

    • If it was like the last time a student at Westwood was found on campus with a firearm, recently GHS had a BB gun pistol, the school won’t lockdown if they are going to apprehend the student. It can be done safely and without alarm. The only danger is the student finding out they are caught before hand and opening fire… best to keep it on the downlow….

  • My only child teaches there & his only child attends there. Today was my B-day & I am soooo very thankful!

    • ‘Bullying’ is a lame excuse for firearm violence. There have always been bullies (Check out ‘A Christmas Story’)….there has never been this propensity for gun violence. I would tend toward sh*tty parenting as the main reason for this behavior.

    • the thing is though he was never bullied (to my knowledge). i used to talk to this kid sometimes and he had many friends and i don’t think ever got into a fight. all of this came out of the blue, and even if he was being bullied it’s not really an excuse.

  • This is favored by the new Department of Government Efficiency.

They used to talk about the School to Prison pipeline. For efficiency they have cut out the center steps.

We now have the Middle School direct to Prison system. Efficient.

  • Let’s just keep these kids before God tlk to your children check their book bags know who they are hanging out with Be a dam Parent and not their dam friend
