16-year-old charged as adult with 2nd-degree murder

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Elijah Lewis Moore, 16, has been charged as an adult with second-degree murder and moved to the Alachua County Jail.

Moore is charged with killing a man by shooting him in the head on February 16; a man was shot in the head at SW 31st Place and SW 26th Terrace, in the Phoenix area, on that date. The shooting is described as “imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual.”

Moore is being held without bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Did he grow up in Section 8 taxpayer funded housing, by chance? How much will future lawyers make off him in other cases yet to happen?

    • Why don’t you just come out and tell us all how you’ve been wronged by lawyers? The only thing you ever comment on is lawyers. It’s getting so old, quite frankly.

  • Wonder if that’s his “rite of passage?”
Couldn’t just graduate from high school or some other life enhancing event?

He thinks he’s an adult? Try him as one, convict him as one and punish him as one.

Wonder if he had a Juvey record prior to this arrest. In any case, there are some 16 year olds out there with firearms, if you’re legally able, you should too.

  • It’s the parents fault kids having kids no supervision growing up, but still there’s no excuse for his actions he definitely deserves a life sentence in my opinion

  • 14 should be the “adult” age when it comes to any sort of violent crime. And build a separate wing where we can house these young predators at the Alachua County Jail until the day they turn 18 and then move them across the hallway into General Pop.

    • Strongly agree. Gangs love to exploit the system by making underage kids commit crimes, knowing that they will only get juvi at best and then crimes sealed when they turn 18.

  • Good thing our city commission is more worried about taking a tool (K9) away from Law Enforcement then actually attempting to get a handle on crime. FYI if you live in the city of Gainesville you are not protected. Better hope you get robbed/shot or are a victim of a crime in the county so the tools(k9) can be utilized.

The sad part is this is the same commission that protected panhandling and now you can’t drive through an intersection without a bum coming to beg.

  • I want to know who wrote that description of the shooting. Was it the Pope? Was it Siri? It is awfully wordy, like someone sitting there with a Thesaurus pretending to be smart. Translation of the description: Honey badger dont give a sh**, he busted a cap in dat azz…

  • If Governor Lawton Childs didn’t take away the rights for the parents to spank the children three quarters of these children would not have ended up the way that they have this day and age

    • I’m pretty sure parents spanking their own kids is still allowed in all 50 states. Schools are allowed to paddle in Florida but most don’t. It’s pretty obvious the punishments have been weak here locally. They need to stop worrying about the equity numbers on paper and start doing their jobs and enforcing discipline every hour of every day. I’m sure there were “warning signs” with this kid that were ignored by the DEI priests cuz equity, cuz reparations, etc.

    • To have some kind of discipline of children, you have to have parents that actually care about the child. This kid probably has been raising himself since he could walk.
