16-year-old murdered in Alachua, suspect arrested

On Sunday, October 31, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot at 15731 NW 141st Street (Maude Lewis Park). Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, 16-year-old Stoney Shine, Jr., of Gainesville, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Shine, another male subject, 19-year-old Adrian Cushion, and multiple other subjects became involved in a physical altercation at the park. At some point during the altercation, Shine walked away and retrieved a firearm. Shine began walking back toward the crowd when Cushion produced a firearm and fired at Shine, striking him multiple times.
Cushion was apprehended a short time later and placed under arrest for the shooting death of Shine.
This is an ongoing investigation. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
This breaks my heart. Alachua is not a place of gun violence. My prays go to both families on this tragedy.
16 year old at a park at 1:45 from Gainesville ?? in the city of alachua ? get shot after getting in an altercation sounds like he was at the wrong place got in some trouble , instead of walking away came back to the fight . Sad.
2nd shooting at this park in 4 years… multiple other shootings in this area and my home is way too close to all of it. Alachua is not the sleepy little town I thought it was. I love it here, but it’s time to think about packing up.

What a shame these two fine young choir boys did not trade in their guns Saturday for a $200 gift card. Meanwhile, Trick or Treat on Main Street in Alachua is some serious business.
Not to mention both park shootings happened in broad daylight middle of the afternoon while church was going on and children playing just feet away.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Breaks my heart when individuals think that the only way to resolve conflict is with a gun. Too many of our youths, and people are dying, and going to prison. Praying for both families. One family lost a son to violence, and the other to prison for a long time. As African Americans there must be a better way, the world is already against us as a people.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💔
