17-year-old hospitalized after trying to jump over moving vehicle

Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 17-year-old male has been hospitalized with a serious head injury after reportedly attempting to jump over a moving vehicle.
Shortly after 6:15 p.m. on April 21, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a crash in the 2100 block of SW 14th Street. When officers arrived, they located a 17-year-old male suffering from a serious head injury. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
Officers determined that the victim was attempting a stunt in which a person jumps over a vehicle driving toward them (see this video, for example). In this case, the victim was attempting to jump over a Camaro. Officers reported that numerous people were present and watching, and several individuals recorded the incident as it occurred.

How many brain cells must you be missing before you’re designated a total dip*hit?
He’s 17. Tell us how YOU never did anything stupid when you were his age. Have some compassion.
Not THAT stupid.
This is the age where you make decisions that can affect the rest of your life.
I imagine his parents are devastated. One moment thinking what a dumbass move and then praying he lives. A head injury takes time and therapy with an unpredictable outcome. This could happen to any teenager. I know I had angels around me at that age. That was the 70’s and I am grateful there was no cell phones and internet.
Hopefully he’ll be okay — if not, he’ll know his stupidity was the likely cause of any future mental incapacitation. His ‘friends’ can show him the videos just in case he forgets.
guess he missed long jump in gym class
The driver is equally as stupid and equally at fault.
“Oh can’t you see me standing here
I’ve got my back against the record machine
I ain’t the worst that you’ve seen
Oh can’t you see what I mean?
Might as well jump. Jump!
Might as well jump
Go ahead, jump. Jump!
Go ahead and jump”

This is heartbreaking! A group of bored teens (especially males) comes up with really dumb, and sometimes incredibly dangerous ideas and often carry them out. I raised 2 boys and am grateful they made it to full brain development at 25. I communicated with my boys and warned them about bad choices BUT, boys are savants at coming up with bad ideas I could not possibly have thought of! Any man who lives to 25 is a walking miracle for the rest of his life. Just ask ANY man. Praying for this young man and his family and hoping at least some other teens might learn from this.
