17-year-old on probation charged as adult with firearm and marijuana possession
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Kyle Doby, 17, has been charged as an adult with firearm and marijuana possession; at the time of his arrest, he was wanted for absconding from probation and cutting off his ankle monitor.
On March 18, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies saw a young black male, who appeared to be Koby, in Linton Oaks (5900 SW 10th Lane), but when he saw the patrol vehicles, Doby quickly turned and disappeared into a shortcut between Linton Oaks and Majestic Oaks. The deputies noted that Doby was with another juvenile male who was later found to have a loaded handgun magazine and marijuana.
A short time later, the deputies saw Doby leaving Majestic Oaks (5800 SW 20th Avenue), stopped him, and arrested him for his warrant. A search incident to arrest reportedly produced about 9.7 grams of marijuana, a “Shiesty-style” face mask, and a loaded handgun with an extended magazine in his backpack.
Post Miranda, Doby reportedly said he knew he had a warrant because he had absconded and had cut off his ankle monitor. He said he does not have a medical marijuana card, and he reportedly said the marijuana was his and was for his personal use. He reportedly said the gun was his and that a Hispanic male named “Billy” had given it to him about two weeks before he encountered the deputies; he said he had been carrying it since then and normally carried it concealed in his pants, but when he saw the deputies’ patrol vehicles, he took the shortcut into Majestic Oaks and moved the firearm from his pants to his backpack. He said his parents don’t let him carry firearms, and he also knew that he was not legally permitted to carry a firearm because he is an adjudicated delinquent.
The deputy noted that Doby is a documented gang member.
Doby has been charged as an adult with possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has juvenile convictions between 2018 and 2026, including robbery and aggravated battery. Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard set bail at $305,000 in the order that charged Doby as an adult, and Judge Joy Danne confirmed that amount at his first appearance hearing.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Why give this scholar bond so he can cut another ankle monitor off or maybe he needs money so he can do some more robberies. Maybe a 20 year sentence is in order. Judge Danne again the Queen of traffic Court JV backup for criminal court.
