17-year-old with extensive record charged as adult with discharging gun in the area of July 30 homicides
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Byron O’mar Young, 17, of Ocala, has been charged as an adult with discharging a firearm in public and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent after allegedly firing a gun in a parking lot near where two people were murdered on July 30.
According to a Gainesville Police Department spokesman, Young’s arrest is unrelated to the homicides, but detectives learned during their investigation of the homicides that Young had a gun and had randomly fired it several times in a nearby parking lot.
Young was initially booked into a juvenile detention facility, but formal charges have now been filed by the State Attorney’s Office, and he has been moved to the adult jail.
Young has extensive juvenile convictions, and he is currently on pre-trial release in Marion County on an adult felony charge of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. Juvenile charges include five counts of possession of a firearm by a minor, shooting into an occupied dwelling, two counts of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, two counts of grand theft auto, three counts of carrying a concealed firearm, grand theft of a firearm, grand theft, three counts of battery, 12 counts of burglary of vehicles, two counts of attempted burglary of vehicles, four counts of petit theft, two counts of resisting without violence, two counts of criminal mischief, and trespassing. He currently has pending juvenile cases in Marion County, along with the pending adult felony case.
Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $55,000, the same amount set by Judge William Davis in his order to charge Young as an adult. Young must also be fitted with a GPS monitor before release.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Compare this bail amount with the bail for the guy who threw a rock through a window. Obviously we live in a white supremacists country. I’m so tired of this garbage.
I wondered the same thing. Ankle bracelet will not stop this POS from committing more crime
Rock vs gun?
This was local and doesn’t appear you’ve been keeping score of late. Have to agree though, I’m tired of this type of garbage too.
He’s not supposed to have a firearm…he did. He’s got multiple arrests. He’s a career criminal who’s going to kill someone because he doesn’t care.
He’s going to have an ankle bracelet. Think that’ll keep him from getting another firearm or breaking the law again? Me either.
If you’re legally able, be prepared to protect yourself and your family. By some accounts he’s reached the age of majority and knows the difference between right and wrong. Let his next wrong be his last. He’s had enough chances.
Instead of blaming everyone else. Find an answer to the problem with these usually fatherless young men. Don’t start with the youth need more things to do. The parents should be also charged in these juvenile cases with child neglect. The parents are not busy with work. If you have a child that is your Job.
White Supremacistst? The article had the “White” perp rock thrower at $200,000.
Another Obama child tax credit paying lawyer dividends.
Already a career criminal and not even reached the legal age. He has shown a complete disdain for society and deserves a maximum sentence, if convicted. Keep him away from Uncle Wally, the kiddies pal though.
Low bail for a chronic thug. Shooting randomly into a parking lot…and MANY other charges.. Wow. Wish those Dixie County judges could fill in all the time for Alachua County judges.
I do not understand why this person is allowed to walk the streets, and commit crime, after crime, after crime. When will he be held accountable for his actions? Apparently, he isn’t held accountable at home, so it is about time that this so-called “Judicial “ system Marion County has in place, to actually do something. $55,000 Bail? They say he is to be required to wear a ankle bracelet upon release… such a JOKE!!!
Do they actually think that will stop him from committing crimes.. Keep Him In Jail!! No Bail!! Teach Him A Lesson!! Make A Example Out Of Him!! Wake Up Marion County Judicial System!!
(Just My Opinion)
His life is over at age 17. Great life style choices, brah.
Why are they letting this punk off so easy? He’s on the highway to hell and will eventually kill someone.
I guess he wasn’t any good at football.
Bunch of keyboard gangsters on here typing!!! We to remember those commentators are teaching our kids and some are even co workers that only feel safe hiding behind their phone!!
What kind of judge (specifically Thomas Jaworski) gives this multiple felony criminal who discharged a weapon in public a $55,000 dollar bond and gives a guy of another color a bond of $200,000 dollars for throwing a rock? SMH
“Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games

We are the people that can find whatever you may need

In the jungle, welcome to the jungle

Mwah, ah, I wanna watch you bleed”
He has a long history of crimes. Rehab is not a option. Penal work or execution.
