18-year-old arrested for car theft, illegal possession of firearm

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Makhai Norad Carter, 18, was arrested last night in Majestic Oaks and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and resisting an officer without violence.

At about 7:26 p.m. last night, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy reportedly found Carter in the driver’s seat of a stolen car in the parking lot of Majestic Oaks Apartments (5800 SW 20th Avenue). The car belongs to a Tennessee resident and had been reported stolen in Gainesville on July 18. The deputy reported that the car was running and Carter was the operator of the car.

A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Carter got out of the car but allegedly refused multiple commands to walk back to the deputy; instead, he allegedly slowly moved away from the deputy. He was eventually handcuffed after the deputy used a taser.

A search of the vehicle reportedly produced a handgun on the front passenger floorboard, in an area where the deputy reported Carter had made furtive movements while refusing to put his hands up.

Carter’s juvenile criminal history is unavailable at this time; he has no adult criminal history. Judge David Kreider set bail at $45,000.

  • Love how criminals think it’s cool to disobey commands and refuse to comply during high risk stops. Law is pretty clear about not not resisting officers commands. Maybe there are auditioning to be the next George Floyd.

  • Ahh yes….another fine up standing Majestic Oaks resident. Section 8 crime breeding at it’s finest.

  • Sigh another typical Saturday night in the soon to be Conservative Utopia of Springs County. I point this out because
chair Timmy and the Newberry MAGAtards claim when THEY run Springs County, with no taxes or money for things like roads, or police, or jails, they will solve these problems.
OK, please explain exactly what you propose to do differently than Alachua County to confront problems such as mentioned in this article. Turning your public schools into Evangelical charter madrassas to prepare your kids to attend Liberty University prior to joining the Heritage Foundation to lobby Congress to ban gays and abortion and love guns is not going to solve the problem, but it is all I see you currently doing. (RNC National Platform, 2024)
If you can explain how you will do it differently (specifics, not just generic promises) I might be convinced to support Springs County. But Timmy and his fellow Republicans do not have ONE “R” with the balls to run against Chuck Chestnut in a single member district election, which they claim they needed to elect Republicans to the BOCC. Just misdirection and Repub lies. Sad
(If I could I would start this comment with 12 thumbs down, to save you all from having to push that button so many times. 🙂 )

    • Instead please enlighten us on how well you raised the 18-yo above, then. We’ll wait for your answer… 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗

    • wait, wait….I am dying to know what you mean by the schools being “evangelical charter madrasses”? Please shed light on that one.

  • Another example of our FAILED COMMUNIST CITY.

  • Judge should order a haircut so Mr. Carter shows respect to the court & the system @ first appearance.
The guy looks like a goof with that mop head.
