GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Terrell Nicholos Weeks, 18, has been charged with first-degree homicide after allegedly shooting and killing 24-year-old Tyren Certain at Eastwood Meadows on Monday, March 4.
At about 4:30 p.m. on March 4, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Eastwood Meadows Apartments (918 SE 44th Street, Gainesville) after receiving multiple calls from residents of hearing gunfire. Callers also stated that there was a dark-colored sedan near the mailboxes with a subject slumped inside.
In a social media post, Sheriff Emery A. Gainey said, “Another senseless tragedy. If you decide to arm yourself and choose violence in our county, we are going to hold you accountable. Weeks is an 18-year-old young man that has been adjudicated in the past as an adult for gun crimes. Violent acts with firearms will end with you in my jail.”
Weeks was initially arrested on Monday night and charged with possession of a firearm by a delinquent during a drive-by shooting in Linton Oaks in March 2023, when he was 17. He is on probation on the same charge, related to a May 2023 incident.
March 2023 incident
At about 2:42 p.m. on March 12, 2023, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to calls about a drive-by shooting in the 600 block of SW 63rd Terrace. Nobody was injured in the incident, but at least two cars were damaged. Ten spent shells from two different guns were reportedly collected by deputies.
Surveillance video showed a black Nissan Altima, and deputies identified the juvenile driver and a juvenile passenger (Makeal Blair, later charged as an adult), both of whom had previously interacted with deputies and who reportedly made social media videos in which they displayed firearms. A search warrant for Blair’s social media account reportedly produced a video from the night of the drive-by shooting; the video showed four people in the back seat of the car.
Formal adult charges in the incident were also recently filed against Makeal Jarrad Blair, 17, the passenger, and Robert Lavelle Green, Jr., 18, the alleged shooter, for shooting from a vehicle and possession of a firearm. Blair was released on $30,000 bail; Green was recently charged with resisting arrest after a drive-by shooting at Sweetwater Square Apartments and was released on $2,000 bail.
In the Linton Oaks incident, Green reportedly sat in the rear passenger seat by the window, and Weeks reportedly sat next to him, in the center. Videos reportedly show Green hanging out the window. Blair also allegedly fired a gun during the incident, and a witness said all the rear seat passengers had firearms, including Weeks.
Weeks has juvenile criminal convictions between 2020 and 2022 and is on probation for possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. He also has three misdemeanor convictions (none violent) and a pending misdemeanor sworn complaint that has not been filed.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered Weeks held without bail for violating probation and set bail at $50,000 on the new charge.

I watched the video. It confirms an opinion that all the yakking about gun violence from elected people isn’t going to diddly squat so long as there are sections of town where both the innocent and the guilty think they can’t step outside unarmed.

Gun crimes and probation? Really? $2,000 bail is just as stupid. Are the Democrats ruining GNV ever going to get serious about reducing the violence? #1 The bail amount is insulting to the innocent people. #2 These 2 men have proven to be violent and have a high disregard towards others. They need to be locked up and a psych evaluation. My bet is they are psychopaths. #3 Maybe the parent(s) should also be held accountable since they were 17 when the crime occurred. Parents teach your kids respect and values.
I am no attorney, but under Florida law this case, sounds like aggravated assault, which carries a mandatory five-year prison sentence, and possible fine. Getting this crew off the street and in prison for five years, will help reduce the crime rate until they are released.
Drag their parents/parent or whoever raised them as forgotten children into the jail with them.

Glad he was caught. Leave the Democrat and Republican votes behind for the next Sheriff vote. Let’s do some math. Terrell is 18 years old. He will no doubt get Life in Prison for this. He won’t have as much access to guns and drugs in prison, so he will likely be well preserved and live a long life- let’s say to 75 years of age. That’s 57 years he will spend in prison. The average inmate costs taxpayers $35,000 a year. What’s 57 × 35,000…anybody got a calculator??
And he is just one of many that we are having to pay for Life sentences. We cannot continue to afford to keep these people alive like this- this nation will implode. Sentence em, give em a year to get right with God, and put em down.

Cops can now “render aid”, clear the area for safe passage, radio EMS, who in turn, transport injured and wounded folks to the hospital and allow a licensed attending physician to “call it”.

Some of the young adults of today do not have a clue about respecting others and especially their own self. They go through school, pass their classes and graduate. Where do I go from here? No training of any kind, I just know how to wake up, breathe, eat where I can, be in the middle of whatever is going on-in the street. I have no job so I have no money, what can I do to get paid? Sell drugs, take something from someone (robbery $.10 or $10,000). While I’m hanging around James, who has a skill ,passes by driving a fairly nice car. I ask him for a ride. He didn’t give me a ride because his gas was low and I didn’t have gas money. Now I dislike him, when actually I am now jealous of him. My hope is to see vocational classes will be put back into the high. Some folks are not good students but they are great with their hands. Another thing, home economics in high school was great. We learned how to cook and clean. Respect for self was important. I remember a teacher asking us would we like to shop all our life at the dollar store or one day be able to go to the better high end store if we desired to shop there. That class gave us the beginning of life skills. And most of all we enjoyed those classes. I’m

Sorry it’s the worthless parents. It’s their culture. People don’t want to offend or hurt feelings by addressing the real issues. When you have pest in your house you call an exterminator. Clean up the Housing areas. Hold landlords responsible for allowing people not on lease reside there. Church personnel should be walking in these areas and speaking with the people “Just Hanging Around”.
I raised two young men and a daughter and I didn’t expect for them to turn out the way that they did and that’s all I’m going to say about the situation you can’t just throw every parent in jail for the way that their children act after they get grown they decide to go on their own and even if they’ve read the Bible or know the Bible they still decide to go on their own and it is called a matter of choice blame Governor Lawton Childs for taking our rights to be able to spank our children when they were young I didn’t say beat I said spank discipline. And the children didn’t have a choice but to listen to all their elders even if they were family or not. Governor Lawton Childs gave children a choice way before their mentality was mature enough to understand and their choice was to call out for help when it wasn’t necessary.
