18-year-old with extensive juvenile criminal history arrested for December 18 shooting
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Cushion, 18, was arrested yesterday on a warrant for shooting a man on December 18 on NE 11th Street.
A Gainesville Police Department investigation of the shooting determined that the victim had been at the Circle K at 20 NE Waldo Road, looking for “blunts” on the ground, when Cushion asked him if he’d seen “weed” that Cushion thought he’d dropped at the gas station. The victim said he didn’t have Cushion’s weed and started walking home; he said Cushion was the passenger in a car that pulled alongside him in the 400 block of NE 11th Street at about 3:15 p.m. as he walked home, and Cushion allegedly got out of the car with a gun in his hand. The victim said Cushion made him empty his pockets and that he’d been in fear that Cushion would shoot him. He said he pulled a knife out of his pocket out of fear, and when he pulled out the knife, Cushion shot him in the abdomen.
A witness said a small gray compact car was involved in the shooting, and officers reportedly obtained the car’s tag number from surveillance video from a house on NE 11th Street. The video reportedly showed the victim walking along the street when the gray car stopped next to him; Cushion got out of the car and appeared to try to talk to the victim. The victim can be seen emptying his pockets, then he picked up his belongings. The video, which is motion-activated, stopped for 17 seconds, and when it resumed, Cushion approached the victim; the victim appeared to drop something, then moved toward Cushion. Cushion reportedly backed up and immediately shot the victim; the victim fell to the ground, and Cushion ran back to the car. The video reportedly showed Cushion with a gun in his hand after the shot was heard.
Officers went to the address associated with the car’s tag and spoke with a witness who said Cushion thought he had dropped his weed at the Circle K and asked the witness to drive him back to the gas station. He said Cushion said something about “weed” to the victim at the gas station, then they left. They later saw the victim walking along the road, and Cushion tried again to speak to the victim; when the victim did not respond, Cushion got out of the car. The witness reportedly heard a gunshot but did not see what happened; Cushion got back in the car, and they drove away.
Officers found video of Cushion from the day of the shooting and reported that he was wearing the same clothes that the shooter wore on the surveillance video of the shooting.
Cushion has juvenile convictions for burglary of a dwelling, petit theft, grand theft of a firearm, burglary of a conveyance, and possession of a firearm by a minor. He was separately charged with two counts of burglary of a dwelling, two counts of resisting an officer without violence, two counts of loitering, two counts of burglary of a conveyance, burglary of a structure, criminal mischief, grand theft, and petit theft; the disposition of these charges is not available because juvenile cases are not public, but they are not listed under convictions.
Cushion has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted felony murder (a 10-20-Life charge), and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. Judge David Kreider’s warrant set bail at $700,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Lock him up and throw away the key!
firstly, he’s WAY to young to do weed
secondly, even if the man did take it, he didnt have to shoot him.
He and his brother, Adrian, were involved in the murder of Stoney Shine with a gun two years ago, also. They claimed self defense and got a pass on that one. This place is an effing war zone, full of animals that have raised themselves and subsist on weed, drugs, and thug life. It’s truly disgusting.
If youn kno da story don’t speak on none
If you can’t write legibly – don’t.
To “Cushion” and “real spill”, that information came straight from the court docket. Let me guess, the lawyers, judges and police officers are all colluding to make this stuff up?
What are you trying to say? Your post is incomprehensible.
I bet the lawyers and judges are the kingpin dealers, too.
Shut yo stupid ahh up u don’t know wtf u talkin bout
Give God the glory
We all know this.
Jesus is a real popular guy in the Florida Prison System.
I’d bet a set of Gold Teeth that right before the first appearance judge called his name, he was praying to Jesus to let him out.
As is with 99% of mugshots here on AC.
That first appearance video court room at the jail, is quite the space for calling upon the Almighty.
Can you feel the Glory hah!
Can you feel the faith? Hah!
In tha name, hah!
Of the lawd, hah!
Jonny, there are many bible thumpers in prison. The majority of them were gay. They have privacy in the restroom in the church. They meet up on Sunday A.M. and P.M. and go in the restroom together that’s meant for one inmate. And do gay things. I’ve heard them talk about it.
LMFAO!!! 😂😆🤣😆😂
I guess you’re one of the reasons people like texting and using emojis; they have a really difficult time with spelling and grammar.
Must be one of those who slipped through the cracks.
I’m guessing we are bantering with Reichert House alums…
Look what yall have created now live in it. Enjoy it 😉
Thank you Judge Kreider. Finally a decent bail.
Want to make the world a better place?
Cull him from society.
18 years old and he screwed up his life for good. Moron.
Mo’ Cushion 4 da Pushin’ ❤️❤️❤️
Gosh, I can’t imagine why Publix and Golden Corral do not want to expand in District 1.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
This is why we have to continue to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights.
Another day in Gainesville, and another headline with another mugshot of another violent felon with dead, soulless eyes. This town is going to 💩
His mom must be really “Proud” of him. She raised him well. I wonder how many more she has produced. Of course, State Representative Hinson will blame the gun. I wonder if she is brave enough to walk in these neighborhoods at night alone. Take Harvey Ward with you for protection. And yes, I feel sad every time a person ruins the rest of their life. We all only have one life to live. Ms. Hinson “FIX” your district. Give up your paycheck until the shootings stop. We as citizens should be able to withhold these local leaders pay until problems solved.
Raised him well? You never know whether he had a father figure or whether he even had a mother figure… quit judging people!! Read your Bible!!! I’m not making excuses for him as he’s an adult and responsible for his own actions.. you can’t put blame on how he was raised!
He’s so young…so tragic, for him and also for society. This sort of reactionary violence by people who don’t seem to have any respect for their lives or the lives of others is all too common these days.
We need a revival. May God turn the heart of this young man, and others who have chosen their own way over God’s way, to Jesus.
Who on earth would give this post a thumb’s down? For pete’s sake.
Another ‘proud’ member of the District 1 crime family.
I have to ask…..
What about the person who was shot? How is that person getting along?
Career criminal and so young.
It’s NOT a ‘gun violence’ problem, it’s a CRIMINAL problem.
