19-year-old arrested for alleged possession of 1000 grams of marijuana and short-barreled rifle

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – London Jeremiah Sims, 19, was arrested late last night and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of a concealed firearm without a permit, and carrying a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony.

A Gainesville Police Department officer pulled Sims over in the 2000 block of NE Waldo Road at about 10 p.m. last night for a stop bar violation; Sims was reportedly the driver and sole occupant of the car. Two officers made contact with him and reportedly saw him making furtive movements with his hands as if he were trying to hide something. The officer who approached from the passenger side reported that he could see a handgun within reach of Sims; under Florida law, a concealed weapon permit is required to have a firearm within reach inside a vehicle. Sims is 19 years old and does not qualify for a concealed weapon permit; because of his age, he also would not be permitted to carry a concealed firearm under the new law that will take effect on July 1.

The officer on the driver’s side of Sims’ vehicle reported that he could see a small bag of marijuana, so Sims was instructed to get out of the vehicle and was immediately detained.

A search of the vehicle reportedly produced 1,012.7 grams of marijuana in a backpack; plastic baggies and a scale were also found. A short-barreled AR-style rifle that measured 10.5 inches was reportedly found in the trunk, and the officers noted that Sims was not in possession of any tax stamp or other document showing that he legally possessed the firearm.

Sims has no criminal record. Judge Walter Green set bail at $40,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Another person, with malice intent, somehow came upon several weapons of which he wasn’t supposed to have in his possession.

Those firearms – they just show up at the most inopportune times. Go figure.

  • Yet, another extremely low bail amount for all these felonies. Same, worthless judge, as usual. All charges will be dropped, and with how much he’s been selling, he definitely has the $4,000 to immediately go free and have all forgotten. This is how people like him end up with 30+ felonies by the time they’re 21 years old— no consequences.

No bail allowed and a life sentence without parole or early release would be a good starting point for setting a consistent consequence bad. Funding for his room and board in prison? Just ask the Corpse in Chief; he’s got it. It’s already been confirmed that China gifted him $150B.

  • Well if convicted he would not be able to carry under the law. Wait a minute he’s a drug dealer in gainesville, he will be able to carry a gun under liberal law.

  • I’m not trying to pick fly specs from the pepper, but, what is the ” Tax Stamp” that is needed to show that you are legally in possession of a firearm?

    • It a piece of paper that is supposed to be kept with the firearm at all times showing that it is legally registered as a short barreled rifle, etc. With ATF. It costs 250.00 I believe. There is a application that needs to be completed. If it was a AR pistol it probably had a stock that ATF has deemed illegal under their new administration. In this case he needs the book thrown at him for the intent to sell and possession of the firearm during the commission of a felony.

  • Was he arrested or not? Stop with the “allegedly.” Isn’t needed and in this case out of place. Or, if you must –

Arrested 19 year-old alleged to possess 1000 grams of marijuana and illegal short-barreled rifle

    • How about: cops caught drug dealer with gun. Good thing the cops caught him …he’s young. They may have saved him from a future life of crime and jail.

    • Reread the first sentence…then skip to the end disclaimer.

      That should answer your question.

  • I’m sure the Biden’s new short barrel rifle ATF rules with make ALL criminals turn in their previously illegally possessed SBRs or pay the $ 200 tax stamp so they be compliant with the new rule? GET REAL! Gun control ONLY controls law abiding citizens. The gang bangers don’t give a flip about any laws.
