19-year-old arrested in nightclub with gun and extended magazine

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Landon Skylar Burke-Cooper, 19, of Lake City, was arrested early this morning after bouncers in a nightclub learned that he had a handgun with an extended magazine in his waistband.

A bouncer at a nightclub at 8 S. Main Street learned that a man on the dance floor was lifting his shirt and displaying a firearm; the club’s bouncer tried to disarm him, and a Gainesville Police Department officer reportedly saw bouncers wrestling with Burke-Cooper, trying to disarm him and remove him from the club. The officer went into the nightclub and arrested Burke-Cooper with the assistance of the bouncers.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a Glock 19 with an extended magazine that was loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition. Burke-Cooper is prohibited from possessing firearms because of his age and also because he was adjudicated delinquent three times as a juvenile.

Burke-Cooper has been charged with possession with a firearm by a delinquent under 24 years of age, carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, and carrying a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony. Bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • So, are the feds going to assure he’s sentenced properly or will our DA reduce it to bad behavior?

    • I think he’ll just be barred from entering any local dance contests for a month, and maybe no extended magazines. Btw expensive gun, betcha it’s stolen.

  • By the appearance of things, he hasn’t learned his lesson. Probably safe to assume the “MTS” ink he displays so proudly doesn’t stand for “Metropolitan Transit Authority.” He also doesn’t respect authority given his reluctance to leave the venue and it’s fortunate no one was seriously injured. These are the types of youth permeating society and they could care less about rules.

Protect yourself & your family. This is just another reason for doing just that.

    • Glad he got the tattoo on his neck to be easily identified…black male, MTS tattoo on neck, longish proud hair. Chocolate milk mustache …I can pick him out of a line-up no problem…he needs to get 5 years…let him out early after 2 and give probation…if violates has to do the 5. If caught with gun again, 10 years…

  • These people give the 2nd Amendment a bad name. Guns were made to protect ourselves and our families from those who wish to do us grave harm. Guns were NOT made to show off while dancing to to some gangster rap song while drunk at the club. I have little doubt that if this guy was ‘disrespected’ by someone who accidentally spilled a drink on him that he would have used that as an excuse to open fire. Hopefully he will have a couple years in the Department of Corrections to think about this.

  • Another tax return baby. He’s going to be someone’s she thing in prison.

  • The lake city gangsters need to stay out Gainesville. They be running out people to shoot in lake city. We have enough wanna be hoodstas here.

  • And when he can’t make the low bail, they will drop the bail, because if he was not poor, he would be able to bail out.

  • New twist on his old dance, the “Pokey-pokey shuffle.” Btw what the heck is a 19 year old doing in a (liquor-serving) club anyway?? What, does he just sip his older buddy’s drink? 🍸

    • They need to close that club & take their liquidation license….this could have been bad like that Orlando thing a few years ago.

  • And nice neck tattoo, he has clearly chosen never to enter the workforce. Homeslice be givin’ all da uddr homies wit da neck tatts a bad name…😄😫🔫

  • Yes that’s it, when non-local people cross into the Gville city limits, their IQs drop 50%. New UF research study confirms this.
